Federation of Community Forestry Users, Nepal (FECOFUN)

Part of the mission of FECOFUN is to promote and protect the rights of community forest users through capacity strengthening, economic empowerment, sustainable resource management, and technical support. This national federation works to strengthen the capacity of the users’ groups and increase awareness to reduce the poverty of the local people through forest resource management. As part of its forest resource management implementation, many related projects and programs are undertaken including Non-Timber Forest Production (NTFP) and alternative energy promotion. One alternative energy being promoted amongst the community forest user groups (CFUGs) is bio-briquette production and use, of which, over 100 user groups are engaged in. The bio-briquette producers are the core part of the process and it is necessary to have organizations, such as FECOFUN, involved in the BG-RCNN that are able to represent the producers; their opinions, concerns and ideas.
